Better Buses WoE
Right now, bus companies are in the driving seat and can ride roughshod over our communities. We need buses in public control to put people over profit.
The Mayor of WECA - Dan Norris, has the power to regulate our buses. Regulation would mean affordable fares, and more evening and weekend services, all with a smart ticket where daily spending is capped.
Everyone’s talking about bus cuts at the WECA committee meeting
All of the public statements at WECA’s September committee meeting were about the impacts of bus cuts. Dan Norris said he was ‘throwing the kitchen sink’ at the problem but didn’t have the powers to actually solve it.

We heard from Better Buses campaigner Matthew Topham about the need for bus franchising to give the WECA mayor the power he needs to. Also watch the video of WECA officer Phil Wright talking about their future plans.
Press Release - Big Choices on Buses
WECA’s ‘Big Choices on Buses’ meetings last week were asking people to choose between cutting bus routes - either reducing frequency or reliability - to help First Bus deal with driver shortages and a funding gap. Buses are absolutely essential. At a time when we urgently need to get cars off the road, having a conversation about cutting the bus routes that people rely on is farcical and tragic.
