Emilia Melville - Statement to WECA Scrutiny Committee (27/01/25)

A short statement from Reclaim our Buses: We are looking ahead to the Mayoral election on the 1st of May. We are aware that WECA is still under the Best Value Notice and is in the process of developing a more functional constitution. The new Mayor will have a lot to do to sort out buses, mass transit, skills and education (which are limited by poor transport) and economic development (which is limited by poor transport). We urge WECA, including Overview and Scrutiny Committee, to complete the constitutional work ahead of that new mayoral election so that the incoming Mayor can focus on serving the needs of the region, rather than spending their time sorting out the constitution.
